The story of a journey inherited by farmers
by the height of 1800 m covering 6 mountainous governorates in the Jazan region, the reputation of natural wealth and an authentic national treasure is rising. The journey was inherited by farmers from their fathers and grandfathers for successive and extended decades in history until it became a value, authenticity, historical heritage, and a product that any home could abandon.
The Khawlani Coffee Beans tree, which grows in the mountainous in the Jazan region, produces Arabica coffee, which is considered one of the perfect types of coffee in the world. Its quality ranged from 83 to 90%, according to the analysis of the specialized international quality laboratories. It is for several reasons, the most important is the availability of conditions for its plant, plus the mountainous soil rich in nutrients, that give it a distinctive flavor and an original and unforgettable taste.
The coffee tree is a part of every home, farmers gave it a wide place in their hearts before their agricultural terraces. The farmers in the mountainous were not just teaching their children to plant coffee trees, but they were keen on teaching them to love and value the coffee tree, to ensure the continuation of its plant and fruitfulness.
Over time, the number of trees began to decline significantly due to the lack of rainwater in some months of the year. Also, due to the rugged roads that connect to most farms. The return from it was weak, and there was a lack in sales ways for it, until it became unknown in this place!
After its decline for a while, coffee plant returned in the mountains of Jazan, Emirate of Jazan region, the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Agriculture paid great attention to this historical treasure and took the initiative to activate and follow up the role of the concerned authorities, enhance the capacity of farmers and educate about this heritage. Plus, to highlight it and adopt an annual festival for it by supervising His Highness the Prince of the region. So, the number of trees jumped from 20 thousand trees to 163 thousand within years, and the production to 330 tons annually. It pushed the name of the region to the top of coffee connoisseurs' opinions in different parts of the world, and this number continues to grow rapidly.
Here in Jabaliyah, we seek to participate in preserving this national wealth by supporting farmers in marketing their best produce and spreading this authentic and distinctive cultural heritage.
